1.2 PREPARING FOR YOUR SKILLS LESSON – Vorbereitung des Trainings
Vorbereitung ist ALLES. Anhand dieser Liste kannst Du Deine Trainings vorbereiten:
- Site Selection:
Choose site suitable for skill and ability of riders.
Check facilities at site (washroom, shade, water).
Prepare Emergency Action Plan for site.
Obtain permission for site use.
Consider natural elements (sun, wind, rain).
Choose teaching materials, if any.
Decide placement of teaching materials (draw plan if necessary). - Skill Description: Briefly describe (What you Say)
Name of skill.
Where skill is used.
Goal for the lesson. - Key Words for Teaching the Skill
Use BICP Key Words.
Choose wording appropriate for group. (Talking to adults vs kids – easy to understand terms) - Phases/Teaching Points
Use clear descriptive phrases to keep lesson simple.
Focus on larger moving body parts.
Identify key bike and body movements essential to skill, and when you are looking for these key movements. - Instructor Demonstration: PERFORM A DEMONSTRATION for every progression.
Consider natural elements (sun, wind, rain).
Position yourself and group appropriately.
Demonstrate in area where you want group to practice.
Consider how many demonstrations needed.
Check if group has questions before you let them practice. - Group Management:
Explain how group will practice.
Choose suitable practice pattern.
Organize teaching materials.
Assess time needed for practice. - Error Detection and Correction:
Common errors for skill.
Common causes
Appropriate corrections.
Decide when group or individual feedback is appropriate.
Be aware of your tone of voice in giving corrections.
Remember to use PCP (positive, constructive, positive). - Progressions:
Consider appropriate methods to progress skill.
Consider progressions appropriate to group’s ability level.
Be prepared to progress skill further if required.
Practice the demonstrations required for each progression. - Wrap-up of lesson:
Leave on a positive note.
Remind group of their accomplishments.
Suggest a goal or things to practice
