REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT CLOSES September 25, 2026

If the class does not meet the minimum enrollment, it will be canceled. Your registration could make a difference.

You must complete the online prework before attending this in-person testing portion of the certification. All participants must attend a Zoom call before attending the in-person testing portion of the certification.

The online prework will take approximately 24 hours to complete, including a quiz after each chapter.

This course teaches stability and biomechanics, teaching strategy, site selection, goal setting, proper demonstrations, keywords, progressions, and error detection for all the Level 1 Fundamental Skills.

We require flat pedals in our mountain bike courses because our BICP-certified instructors have trained their feet to be active and engaged, knowing that if and when they apply these foot/pedal techniques back to their clips, they will be better riders.

Pro Tip: Flats vs Clips is not an either/or decision – it’s an “and.” When possible, learn and practice skills on flat pedals so riders can train their feet to engage the pedals.

If riders learn skills in the flats and then apply the fundamentals of active, engaged feet to their clips, they will be better riders. By retraining their feet to be dynamic, they will make their ankles more supple and flexible, improving their pedaling power and form.

The BICP uses the Minimum Ride Standard when testing for Certification.

BICP Certification courses are designed to teach participants how to instruct skills, not to learn the skills themselves.

All participants are expected to be proficient in the skills listed below and capable of performing them at or above the BICP Ride Standard before attending the in-person certification course. Demonstrating these skills successfully during the course is a non-negotiable requirement for certification. If you are not yet proficient, it is essential that you take the time to develop these skills before registering.

Important Distinctions:

    • Proficiency: The ability to perform the skill reliably and effectively.
    • Mastery: The ability to teach the skill with confidence and clarity.

If you need additional support to meet these standards, please contact BICP for information about a skills preparation course. We’re here to help you succeed.
