Ride Standards & Course Expectations
The BICP Certification Program is structured as a skills-teaching course rather than a skills-learning course. Its objective is to develop participants’ capabilities to teach and evaluate rider skills effectively.
To uphold the integrity and value of BICP certification, all participants are required to meet the Minimum Ride Standard prior to attending the in-person course. This standard ensures that each instructor can consistently demonstrate and teach at a high level.
Throughout the certification course, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in every skill outlined in the curriculum and meet or exceed the BICP Ride Standard. These demonstrations are a prerequisite for certification, demonstrating readiness to instruct others with confidence and accuracy.
Skill performance signifies proficiency; skill instruction reflects mastery.
Instructor Expectations: Levels 1 and 2
At both Level 1 and Level 2 of the BICP Certification Program, instructors are held to rigorous standards to ensure the highest quality of skill demonstration and instruction. Candidates must consistently demonstrate mastery of the Fundamental Elements and perform all required skills with precision, using platform (flat) pedals.
Instructors are expected to accurately identify rider errors and deliver clear, constructive, and encouraging feedback. It is essential to apply the latest BICP teaching language, progressions, and best practices to ensure instruction is both systematic and effective.
At Level 2, instructors must extend their proficiency by confidently teaching all Level 1 and Level 2 skills on their initial attempt. This includes demonstrating fluency with current keywords, teaching points, and progressions, and the ability to correct rider errors through positive, constructive feedback.
These expectations reflect the importance of upholding the integrity and value of BICP certification, ensuring that each instructor is fully prepared to teach and evaluate rider skills with professionalism and accuracy.
