ELAINE BOTHE
Elaine Bothe has been a cycling enthusiast her entire life; as a baby riding behind her Dad and first teaching herself how to ride on a borrowed bike at age four – though very much against her Dad’s wishes – on a beat-up old bike. She delivered newspapers from her bike during grade and high school and was a bike messenger in Portland after college.
For a while, she enjoyed training and racing in triathlons. At age 42, Elaine discovered cyclocross and cross-country mountain bike racing, then expert-level Enduro and Downhill racing. Her top finishes include an Enduro age-group national championship and multiple DH and cross-country medals.
While Elaine thoroughly enjoys racing and riding, her true passion and joy are teaching and sharing the fun of outdoor sports with others. A true lifelong learner, Elaine is fascinated by the learning process and how it’s a different experience for everyone. She delights in teaching skills, from teaching someone to ride a bike for the first time to cyclocross skills, urban riding skills, and mountain biking at any level.
Elaine is a Level 1 ski instructor, NASM-certified personal trainer, and Wilderness First Responder.
Elaine earned her Level 2 MTB instructor certification in 2012 with Shaums March,
pre-IMBA.
She currently runs her instruction businesses, ElaineBBikes and Shred Academy Bikes, based in Portland and on Mt. Hood, Oregon. She helps run programs for kids and adults with the Northwest Trail Alliance, Portland Parks and Recreation, and many other organizations. She instructed for years at The Lumberyard Indoor Bike Park in Portland, Oregon, and currently is a mountain bike and ski instructor at Timberline Lodge on Mt.Hood.
