KELLY HAZLEGROVE
Kelly has been in love with nature since she discovered the creek behind her house as a child. After finishing college and graduate school, she moved to the mountains of Virginia to begin her career as a freshwater biologist. In her late 20s, she got serious about mountain biking and was determined to develop her technical riding skills. To share her passion for mountain biking, she helped found her local mountain bike club, the Greater Lynchburg Off-Road Cyclists (GLOC), and later went on to start a NICA team in her city, the Lynchburg Area Bikers (LaB).
Kelly began her coaching journey in 2014 through the Bike Instructor Certification Program (BICP) and is now a certified Level 3 Advanced Instructor. She loves learning new bike skills and teaching people to be playful on the bike. As a freshwater biologist, Kelly can be found coaching through Blackwater Bike Shop in Lynchburg, Virginia, at regional camps and clinics, or in streams catching bugs and fish. She loves all riding styles, including downhill, XC, and long backcountry rides, but her current favorite is playing on bikes with her son.
When she isn’t going for a rip with friends or witnessing the excitement of a student conquering a new skill or tackling a new trail feature, she’s a freshwater biologist for a state regulatory agency.
